About Koyasan Zofukuin

During the reign of Emperor Seiwa (858-876), priest Ikku, the eldest son of Toki Yamashiro, entered the temple and founded this temple.

Today, the temple has been merged, repaired, and renovated to preserve the atmosphere of the past while providing facilities that are not inconvenient for modern people, and we operate a lodging house together with the temple.

Origin of Zofukuin

This temple was founded by Genkaku, the third son of Nakamitsu Tada, the youngest grandson of the famous Japanese historical figure, the Chinju Shogun, Lord Mitsunaka Tada.

Lord Manchu deeply revered Kobo Daishi and worshipped him at Koyasan.

He built a temple on Mt. Koya after he fell ill in the third year of Choutoku's reign, and left a will that praised Kobo-Daishi and prayed for the "promotion of good fortune" for the whole family.

The name of Zofukuin Temple is derived from this.
